We have another woodland added to the list to be invesigated between the 3rd & 5th April. This time it is Deipkier wood and area of semi-ancient natural woodland located to the north of Aireborough and in ownership of Leeds Bradford Airport.
As with the surveys currently taking place across the South Pennines, the survey will consist of a walkover investigation during which any archaeological features representative of human activity such as tackways, field and woodland boundaries, quarries, platforms, settlement sites and industrial features (including the historic trees themselves) will be be recorded.
This record will feed into the regional Historic Environment Records as well as the landowner to not only highlight the historical development of the region, but to enhance and guide any future management of the woodland itself.
Looking forward to this 🙂
